A picture of Charlie Birger (below left, sitting in the middle on top of the car and wearing a vest) and his gang in the 1920’s. Convicted of ordering the murder Mayor Joe Adams of West City, Birger was hanged on April 19, 1928 (below right.) His last public statement was, “It is a beautiful world.”
