John M. Smith, Executive Director

Smith earned a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Administration in 1981 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has been the Executive Director of the Egyptian Area Agency on Aging since 1990 and previously held the position as Director for two other agencies in Southern Illinois which serve older people; from 1978 to 1985 in Perry County and from 1985 to 1990 in Williamson County.

Under the administrative direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director functions as the chief executive officer of the Egyptian Area Agency on Aging. The incumbent directs the planning, organization, development, and coordination of area-wide programs, activities, and services for older persons; and provides leadership and advocacy on behalf of older persons in the Agency planning and service area. The Executive Director is the prime contact with the Board of Directors and is a broad gauge manager with an administrative oriented background having a thorough understanding of social services and the requirements for dealing with the public in the delivery of the services. The Executive Director employs and supervises all of the staff (employees) of the agency.

C. Hill, Fiscal Manager

The Fiscal Manager is primarily responsible for agency fiscal matters and general office management of the Egyptian Area Agency on Aging. The incumbent provides fiscal technical assistance to staff; advises the Executive Director on the financial status of the agency; and directs the activities of assigned agency staff. The Fiscal Manager is the agency contact with funding sources and staff on agency fiscal matters which require a thorough understanding of financial accounting and reporting requirements and the ability to convey that knowledge to others.

G. Johnston, Program Manager

The Program Manager assumes primary responsibility for carrying out the programs, evaluation, needs assessment, and area-wide planning activities for which the agency is responsible. The Program Manager insures that these activities are coordinated with the Agency’s service providers. The Program Manager directs special projects which meet the needs of older persons in the area.

S. Coale, Program Accountant

The Program Accountant is primarily responsible for the fiscal review of all funded recipients, their applications and subsequent revisions, required reports, and in the annual administrative and financial monitoring of all funded recipients of the agency. The Program Accountant provides fiscal technical assistance and serves as a resource to all service providers, as well as to other individuals, groups, or agencies, concerning funding procedures, grant applications/ revisions, and fiscal record keeping and reporting requirements relative to services and programs of the agency.

P. Creek & R. Reeves, Field Coordinators

The Field Coordinators have the primary responsibility for maintenance of the agency’s relationships with service providers. The Field Coordinators monitor and provide programmatic technical assistance to service providers and maintain regular contact with their assigned service providers to keep them informed of the status of service delivery, program developments, and any problems. The Field Coordinators are also responsible for planning activities in the development of the Area Plan, including representing the agency advisory councils, committees, associations, boards, and other meetings.

S. Smith, Fiscal Assistant

The Fiscal Assistant is primarily responsible for maintaining all agency general accounting records, including preparing payroll and necessary tax-related reports, employee benefit and leave records, checks for disbursement of agency funds, check registers, all supporting documentation for related transactions, and posting and maintaining all accounting journals and ledgers for both agency operations and service provider activities.

S. Campbell, Agency Secretary

The Agency Secretary is a part-time position which provides administrative and secretarial support to the agency staff. The Agency Secretary is responsible for typing, word processing, note taking, filing, collating, copying, answering the telephone, and other clerical duties.

K. Sanders, Data Entry

The Data Entry position is a part-time position which provides secretarial support for agency staff. The Data Entry position is responsible for entering client data and assisting with typing, filing, collating, copying, answering the telephone, and other clerical duties.

L. Jared, Prescription Drug Program Specialist

The PDP Specialist is a temporary, part-time position funded by a grant from the Illinois Department on Aging. The PDP Specialist helps senior adults, and professionals who help seniors, understand Medicare and the Illinois Cares Rx prescription drug programs, apply for financial assistance, and enroll in a prescription drug plan.

Volunteers and Interns & Practicum Students

Volunteers and Interns & practicum students from SIUC help agency staff with special projects, become trained to perform common duties (such as learning the basics of various senior adult programs in order to answer questions and provide assistance), provide offsite duties needed by the agency, such as research, visiting other sites, and attending meetings/training/conferences. Volunteers and Interns become familiar and assist with the duties of the programmatic, fiscal, and clerical staff of the agency.
