Gap-Filling Services for Family Caregivers

Family caregivers – whether they be a spouse of an older person, an adult child helping an older parent, or grandparents raising their grandchildren – may be eligible for supplemental “gap-filling” services.

Although there is a per-family limit on the amount of financial assistance available, the types of services which can be funded are virtually unlimited. Gap-filling services for older people include, but are not limited to –

  1. emergency response systems,
  2. the purchase of personal supplies, such as Depends ©,
  3. minor repairs to a home not covered by other programs, and
  4. assistive devices which help overcome limited physical ability.

Also, there is a gap-filling service for grandparents raising grandchildren which include, but not limited to –

  1. diapers,
  2. clothes,
  3. school supplies,
  4. bedding supplies,
  5. help for the cost of day care, and
  6. fees for recreational activities.

But, many other “gap-filling” services can be provided for needs for which no other agency or program will help.

Gap-filling services are provided through our senior centers and regional Case Management agency to supplement the care provided by family caregivers and is a part of our Family Caregivers Support Program.
